Android vs iOS: Which is secured?

apple vs android

Apple’s iOS operating system has been considered the more secure Operating system for the long time. Is it because Apple’s operating system is a closed system? Or is it that Apple doesn’t release its source code to app developers. This makes it more difficult for hackers to find vulnerabilities on iOS-powered devices.

Whereas Android devices are the opposite. Android relies on an open-source code, meaning that the owners of these devices can make changes in their phone’s and tablet’s operating systems.Too much changes in the source code might create a weakness in their devices’ security. Then there are manufacturers themselves. If a phone maker puts out a new device with a modification to the Android operating system and there’s a vulnerability in that code, hackers can find it.

Android devices are often targeted by hackers. Android mobile devices today are more than the Apple Devices. The global popularity of the Android operating system makes it an attractive target for cybercriminals.

While iOS being considered more secure because it has less possibilities of hacking an iPhone for cybercriminals.

iOS and Android can be equally vulnerable to types of phishing attacks that can get your information like Bank Details, Business Details etc. Both are equally vulnerable.

Android vs. iOS: How does the mobile operating system of each impact their security?

Android operating system

Popularity: The Android operating system is the most popular mobile operating system in the world. Developers are constantly building new apps designed to run on the system. May it be an online Food App or a Fitness tracker app. The problem occurs when hackers create apps designed to infect your mobile devices. Unfortunately, the process of reviewing these apps in Google Play store are less stringent than what developers face when adding apps to Apple’s App Store. Malicious apps sneak onto the Google Play store. One of the main issues is that the Android user can go into an Android device and enable the installation of software from Unknown Sources. This means that you can install software on the Android device that does not come from the Google PlayStore but comes from third-party websites that provide APKs. These APKs bypass the security scan from google play store. Many people like me want to play MOD Games that provide unlimited coins in the game. We often install these MOD games from third-party websites or apps that provide these. So, yes we are risking our Mobile security in Android because this is possible in Android Devices.

Open source: Android owners can modify the source code of their Android devices. This appeals to users who want the flexibility to change the way their mobile devices run. But it can also make Android devices vulnerable to attacks.

Apple’s iOS

More stringent controls: It is difficult for developers to get apps into the App Store. That’s because the review process is more strict than in Google Play Store. It is less likely for a malicious app to sneak into Apple’s store. It is mostly not possible to install third-party apps in IOS unless you Jailbreak it. Jailbreaking refers to privilege escalation on an Apple device to remove software restrictions imposed by Apple on iOS, iPadOS, tvOS, watchOS, bridgeOS and audioOS operating systems. Typically it is done through a series of kernel patches

Less flexibility: Apple doesn’t allow the owners of its devices to modify its iOS operating system on their devices. That makes the system more secure since Apple controls the complete experience. This doesn’t stop some owners from “jailbreaking” their Apple mobile devices, modifying their source code.

A less tempting target: Because the iOS operating system powers fewer mobile devices than Android, hackers don’t target the system as often. This makes sense Hackers and cybercriminals can ensure more victims if they focus more of their attacks on the more popular Android operating system.

On conclusion Apple has better security in terms of Apps rather than Android. But it is not impossible to get Apple devices hacked. Some usual precautions are better because People are using Online Payment Apps. So It is a great risk of losing money.
